I really wouldn't call Rene Magritte obscure art... He's probably one of the more recognizable surrealist artists of the 20th Century. That is a nice touch to add art references to the world of comic art, so many people are locked into the mindset that comics are a low brow art, and more often many comic artists have an art background. The principles and elements of art make or break the work whether its on canvas or in comic.
